What to do with Common Emergencies?
A dull ache that is throbbing may indicate a gum problem. In that case clean the area around the sore tooth with dental floss or try to remove the object lodged in there. Then rinse your mouth with warm salt-water rinses until you can get into Evergreen to see one of our dentists. A topical anesthetic (Ora-gel) may be applied to the problem area.
A sharp shooting pain usually indicates an infection or a tooth problem. Avoid placing aspirin on the tooth or gums. Apply a cold compress if swelling persists, and take Tylenol (acetaminophen) until your able to see a Evergreen dentist.
Knocked Out Tooth
If the tooth was a baby tooth don't place it back in the socket. Come in to see an Evergreen Dentist that there is no real damage to the underlying tissue.
If the tooth is a permanent tooth and you are able to find the toothbrush off any debris give it a quick rinse with warm milk or water. Make sure to handle the tooth by the crown (white part) and not the root. If you are able to reinsert the tooth in the socket, keep it in place by biting down on a clean cloth or gauze. If the tooth is unable to be placed back in the socket you can place it under the patients tongue. For the best prognosis for saving the tooth, you need to be seen by a dentist as soon as possible (within an hour). Please call the office immedialtey 204.339.0050.
